Our Mission
Our mission is to trust the children to lead their journey through their first years of education by forming meaningful relationships with each child and responding to and supporting their needs. Anyone who wants their child to experience this atmosphere would benefit from sending their little one to OVPS. We offer a variety of open ended materials and play spaces for each child to be able to create their own unique experiences and to thrive while doing so. We guide and observe them while they’re exploring and then revisit what the environment has to offer to ensure it is still supporting their growth, development, and curiosity .
Our Core Values
Child-led learning: we trust the children to know their own interests and needs. We let each child freely choose what they want to do throughout the day and how long they want to do it. This helps ensure that each child stays engaged and focused on meaningful learning experiences that are just right for them. This also helps the children feel more in control and tends to reduce the need for power struggles.
Respectful relationships: we believe in really listening to the children and connecting with them. By doing this it helps us be proactive in meeting and responding to their needs. This also helps the children feel heard, seen, and trusted thus tending to reduce the amount of challenging behaviors.
Encouraging independence: We always let the children know that they “can do hard things”. Whether it's putting on their shoes or coat, trying to cut, write a word, or build a tower - we encourage a can-do spirit. When they need help they know they can ask for teamwork and together we will help them solve their problem but usually we will not do it for them. This helps boost their confidence, self-esteem, and ability to persevere through challenges.
